WORK PROJECTS

My work in clinical informatics spans system implementations, workflow redesign, and technology adoption across multi-specialty healthcare environments. Each project demonstrates my ability to bridge clinical practice and technology, align stakeholders, and deliver measurable improvements in patient care, efficiency, and compliance. Below are selected projects that highlight my approach and impact.

ENTERPRISE IMPLEMENTATION

A multi-specialty clinic identified the need for a new laboratory test to be made orderable in Epic. Without a standardized build, providers relied on manual workarounds, leading to inconsistent ordering practices, higher risk of errors, and delays in patient care. Leadership sought a solution that would streamline provider workflow, ensure compliance with clinical guidelines, and align with laboratory capabilities. Approach: As Clinical Informatics Specialist and Project Lead, I collaborated with clinical leadership, laboratory services, and Epic analysts to define requirements: •Facilitated stakeholder meetings to ensure test ordering matched lab capacity and turnaround expectations. •Partnered with IT governance to review compliance and build specifications. •Oversaw Epic build and testing, engaging end users (providers, nurses) for validation and workflow alignment. •Designed and delivered training materials and communication updates prior to go-live. •Results: Ordering efficiency improved: Providers could quickly and accurately place the new test without workarounds. •Error reduction: Ordering errors decreased by an estimated 18% within the first quarter post-go-live. •Clinical compliance: New build aligned test ordering with current clinical guidelines and lab protocols. •Provider satisfaction: Feedback surveys indicated improved confidence and reduced frustration in ordering workflows. •Lessons Learned: Early engagement of end users is critical for adoption and minimizing workflow disruption. •Close collaboration between clinical and IT teams ensures technical builds align with real-world clinical practice. •Transparent communication and targeted training help drive confidence and trust in new system functionality.

GENETICS TESTING IMPLEMENTATION - CLINIC WIDE

Genetics Protocol Brochure.gif

This genetics testing protocol implementation project focused on streamlining the ordering and reporting of genetic tests within a large clinical setting. The initiative began with a comprehensive assessment of existing workflows, identifying gaps in efficiency, data accuracy, and provider communication. By engaging clinical leadership, laboratory teams, and IT stakeholders, we designed a standardized process that aligns with both clinical guidelines and laboratory capabilities. The project emphasized provider usability, aiming to reduce errors and improve the overall patient experience through more timely and precise test results. Key Contributions as Project Lead: Led updates to workflow and process improvements, ensuring alignment with clinical and laboratory needs. Directed clinician training programs to drive consistent adoption of new protocols. Oversaw site-wide standardization to create a uniform approach across all departments. To achieve this, I developed a structured build within the electronic health record system that supports automated ordering, results integration, and clinical decision support. The implementation included rigorous validation, testing, and end-user training to ensure seamless adoption across diverse clinical departments. Key metrics, such as order turnaround time, test accuracy, and provider satisfaction, were continuously monitored to guide iterative improvements and ensure sustained operational excellence. The outcomes of the project demonstrated measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, provider confidence, and patient care quality. By creating a replicable framework, the organization is now positioned to expand genetics testing services with minimal disruption to existing operations. This project highlights our capability as consultants to bridge clinical, technical, and operational domains, delivering solutions that are practical, scalable, and aligned with strategic healthcare objectives.

In-house Laboratory-to-External Laboratory System Transition Team Lead

The laboratory transition project was a high-impact initiative focused on moving from an in-house testing system to a third-party laboratory model. This change required significant coordination between clinical staff, administrative leadership, and external partners to ensure uninterrupted patient care, data integrity, and compliance with regulatory standards. The project not only modernized laboratory operations but also improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness for the organization. As the clinic project liaison, I served as the primary bridge between clinical teams and both internal technical staff and the external laboratory vendor. I gathered requirements from end users, translated them into actionable steps for IT and vendor teams, and facilitated discussions to align workflows across multiple departments. My role included coordinating provider education, addressing clinical concerns, and ensuring that the new laboratory model supported daily operations without disruption. My ability to communicate effectively across diverse stakeholders proved essential to the project’s success. By balancing the needs of clinical providers with the technical constraints of the third-party system, I helped resolve integration challenges and streamlined the transition process. This work ensured that the clinic maintained high-quality patient care while adopting a more scalable and standardized laboratory model. The project highlights my strengths in liaison roles, cross-team collaboration, and guiding organizations through complex system transitions. My leadership in bridging clinical and technical teams was critical to the project’s success, ensuring that the transition delivered both operational efficiency and clinician adoption. By facilitating clear communication, resolving issues proactively, and aligning the build with clinical needs, I enabled a smooth go-live and long-term sustainability. This project underscores my ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and deliver tangible results. Key Outcomes: Bridged clinical and technical teams to align build with provider needs, resulting in 100% provider adoption during the first 90 days Led user acceptance testing and real-time go-live triage, driving a 78% reduction in ordering errors across workflows Standardized processes across departments and facilitated clinician training, contributing to a 92% improvement in turnaround time variance
